Gender minister nominee says aware of concerns over keeping Assembly seat

Seoul, September 2 - Gender Minister nominee Yong Hye-in has acknowledged awareness of concerns surrounding her decision to retain her National Assembly seat while being appointed to the Cabinet. She refrained from answering questions regarding calls for her resignation from her parliamentary role. The gender equality advocate has been pressed to give up her seat in parliament following her announcement that she would maintain her position in the legislature, despite the uncommon practice for proportional representatives.

Speaking to reporters, Yong expressed her readiness for the confirmation hearing and plans to provide her insights post-organization. When questioned about the calls to resign as a lawmaker, she assured that she is attentively considering the various worries and apprehensions. It is worth noting that lawmakers can concurrently serve as Cabinet members, but proportional representatives, such as Yong, have traditionally relinquished their parliamentary seats to assume such positions.
