Fresh fire in Kangpokpi as Manipur tensions simmer

Fresh violence erupted in Kangpokpi, Manipur, as tensions escalated between rival communities. At least one individual sustained injuries when armed men allegedly targeted Liangmei Naga villages, opening fire and setting homes ablaze. The Makui Village Authority reported that the attack on Pipuram Naga Village and the main Makui Naga Village continued for hours, with the attackers seeking to expel Liangmei Nagas from the IT Road area and claim control over ancestral territory.

This latest incident follows a recent attack on N Teikhang Kuki village earlier in the week, where three villagers were killed and two others, including a woman, were injured. The escalating violence has led to a statewide general strike calling for an NRC and Census operations to be deferred until concerns over fairness and delimitation can be addressed.
