Capital makeover for BRICS Summit: Floral displays, food festivals, performan

Three years after the Capital's streets were revamped for the G20 Summit, Delhi is set for yet another transformation ahead of the BRICS Summit on September 12-13. The New Delhi Municipal Council chairperson, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, announced that the city will undergo a facelift in the NDMC areas. The BRICS Summit will be hosted at the Bharat Mandapam in Central Delhi, and the beautification plan includes landscaping, floral displays, fountains, murals, food festivals, and performances.

Forty-one major roads have been chosen for the makeover and will be divided into 14 circles, each with a dedicated nodal officer overseeing daily inspections, cleaning, and beautification. Additionally, 15 locations will feature floral boards, nine will have flower fountains, and 17 roundabouts will undergo special beautification and landscaping.

Special attention will be given to the parking areas around the 10 hotels where BRICS delegates will stay, as well as the India-Africa Friendship Rose Garden and the BRICS Friendship Rose Garden. Beyond landscaping, the city will showcase the "visual imprint" of the BRICS Summit, with the Ministry of External Affairs providing input on creative ideas, such as enhancing the BRICS logo, adding more floral boards, and placing boards with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Event highlights include a food festival featuring various cuisines from BRICS member countries, mural paintings in the National Museum area, and performances by artists from these nations at the Talkatora Garden amphitheatre. With the monsoon rains still a concern, measures have been taken to address waterlogging and desilting in several drains.
