Illegal codeine syrup sale: Ahmedabad drug wholesaler’s licence cancelled

The Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) has revoked the drug licence of an Ahmedabad-based wholesaler, Prama Healthcare, for distributing Codeine-based cough syrups to unlicensed vendors in Mizoram, Mizoram, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam. The discovery came after a raid on August 7 by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Ahmedabad City Police, who seized 5,050 bottles of Rx Triprolidine Hydrochloride and Codeine Phosphate Syrup worth Rs 54.91 lakh.

The seizure was made during the delivery of the syrup to various firms in Mizoram, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam. One of the retailers in Aizwal, Mizoram, was found without a licence from the state authority. Both Hiren Kantilal Patel and Parshva Vora, partners at Prama Healthcare, were arrested under sections of the NDPS Act and subsequently placed under judicial custody. The SOG reported to the FDCA, leading to the cancellation of Prama Healthcare's drug licence.
