Bus crash in Egypt's Sinai kills 22, including 10 Jordanians

A bus overturning on a desert highway in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula claimed the lives of 22 people and injured 28 others on Wednesday, according to authorities. The accident occurred on the route linking the Red Sea resort towns of Dahab and Nuweiba, an area renowned for its beaches, coral reefs, and mountainous scenery. Ten Jordanian citizens perished in the tragedy, as reported by the kingdom's state-run Al-Mamlaka television.

The bus was carrying 43 passengers, including 22 Jordanians, initially reported by Egypt's Health Ministry. This figure was subsequently increased by six. Twenty ambulances rushed to the scene, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals for medical attention. The cause of the accident remains undetermined. Footage from AFP depicted the overturned bus and its debris strewn across the roadside.

Road accidents are commonplace in Egypt, frequently attributed to reckless driving, subpar maintenance, and uneven law enforcement. In a separate incident last month, at least 18 individuals, primarily teenagers, lost their lives in northern Egypt when two pick-up trucks carrying agricultural day laborers collided. Last year, nearly 6,000 people succumbed to road accidents throughout the country, according to Egypt's state statistics agency.
