At least 22 killed in a passenger bus crash in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula

At least 16 individuals lost their lives in a bus accident on the eastern coast of Egypt, according to the national health ministry. An additional 28 individuals sustained injuries along the highway connecting the Red Sea towns of Dahab and Nuweiba in the South Sinai governorate on Wednesday morning. Jordanian nationals were among those reported to have perished in the incident, as per reports from Egyptian and Jordanian news outlets.

Emergency services deployed up to 20 ambulances to the crash site to offer immediate assistance and transport the wounded to medical facilities, as confirmed by the Egyptian health ministry. The origin of the crash remains undetermined. The region is renowned as a favored tourist hotspot, drawing visitors from across the globe. The area frequently experiences fatal road mishaps, with the authorities reporting nearly 6,000 fatalities in 2025.

Such incidents are frequently attributed to reckless driving and inadequate road upkeep. In the previous month, 18 people perished and 30 sustained injuries following a collision between two trucks in the northeastern Ismailia governorate.
