Mercy Malaysia sends humanitarian team to flood-hit Nepal

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercy Malaysia has dispatched a humanitarian team to Nepal to evaluate the circumstances and requirements of individuals impacted by recent flash floods that struck multiple districts on August 26. The team's leader, Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus, identified Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and Chitwan as districts severely impacted by the disaster.

The mission's main objectives encompass search and rescue endeavors, emergency shelter provision, distribution of food, clean water, sanitation facilities, healthcare services, protection measures, and mental health and psychosocial support. Numerous victims are presumed to remain isolated due to significant damage to roads and bridges, along with extensive debris flows, making it crucial to expedite access for delivering humanitarian aid.

Mercy Malaysia will prioritize families who have been displaced, vulnerable populations, and families who have suffered loss of loved ones. The organization will collaborate closely with local authorities and affected communities to ensure that interventions are tailored to specific needs, coordinated, and timely in response to evolving situations on the ground.

Dr Ahmad Faizal emphasized that the humanitarian mission remains fluid, with needs expected to evolve as access improves and further assessments are carried out. Mercy Malaysia urges sustained collective efforts and solidarity to support communities affected by these devastating floods. Every contribution, no matter the size, can aid in saving lives, restoring hope, and assisting families affected by this catastrophic event.
