Boards’ dissolution: Mahama won’t tolerate indiscipline, poor performance – Secretary

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a stern warning to ministers, chiefs, board members and other political appointees, stating that actions that weaken government unity, institutional power and policy execution will not be accepted. This follows the President's recent dissolution of the boards of nine state institutions and upcoming chief executive reshuffle.

In a Secretary to the President notice, all appointees were reminded of Mahama's commitment to enforcing discipline, accountability and effective leadership throughout government. The warning emphasizes that any conduct undermining governmental unity, authority or policy implementation will not be tolerated. The administration's scrutiny of appointees will continue beyond the recent changes, with regular performance evaluations across all sectors, with the President prepared to take any necessary actions to maintain the integrity, effectiveness and responsiveness of his administration.

The latest warning comes after Mahama dissolved the boards of nine state institutions on September 2, including the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company, Volta Aluminium Company Limited, and others. The institutions will have their boards reconstituted in due course, with sector ministers tasked with implementing the dissolution.

The President's reorganization efforts also include ministerial changes, with Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo reassigned to Special Initiatives and others moved to different portfolios. The notice stresses that appointees must understand public office is a privilege and an opportunity to serve the Ghanaian people, urging them to cooperate with the President and commit to delivering the government's mandate and improving the lives of Ghanaians.
