US Navy face Pattaya Walking Street time limit, cannabis shop ban, and restricted zone

The US Navy is set to dock at Laem Chabang Port in Chon Buri from September 2 to 6, 2026, with approximately 60% of their personnel, around 3,000 individuals, expected to visit Pattaya. In preparation for their arrival, Pattaya City officials met on August 31 to discuss security measures and designate restricted areas.

These restrictions include a ban on US Navy personnel entering Soi 6, Soi 6/1, and Soi 7, as well as cannabis shops and pharmacies. Entertainment areas like Pattaya Walking Street will remain accessible but must be vacated by 2am. Businesses have been instructed to maintain fair pricing and avoid taking advantage of tourists. Measures have been taken to prevent sexual exploitation, with prostitution being illegal and the exploitation of children and those under 18 strictly prohibited.

The US Navy's visit follows Pattaya's recent crackdown on prostitution, resulting in the arrest of 25 individuals, including Thai, Laotian, and Ugandan nationals. Several Thai celebrities and social media influencers participated in a controversy involving posing as sex workers along the beach, sparking debate over the legality of prostitution in Thailand and its portrayal in the media.
