Turaki-led PDP faction endorses G-100 move to defeat APC

The Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed the G-100 initiative aimed at forming an all-opposition front ahead of the 2027 general elections. This decision was made following the first G-100 meeting held on Monday at the Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Centre in Abuja, according to a statement released by the National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong.

The summit brought together representatives of various opposition parties to explore potential areas of collaboration and the possibility of jointly presenting a common candidate against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming election. Turaki's faction stated that their decision to join the G-100 process was motivated by the hardships faced by Nigerians under President Bola Tinubu's administration.

They emphasized that the move was in line with the principles of transparency, equality, data-driven decisions, and egalitarianism, which they believed would lead to the selection of a credible leadership capable of addressing the nation's issues of poverty and insecurity. The faction quoted Turaki as saying that their participation in the process was guided by the promise that any outcome arising from this transparent and equitable process would provide Nigerians with a capable leader to alleviate the country's pressing problems.

The PDP's endorsement of G-100 aligns with their earlier stance of collaborating with political parties and organizations dedicated to challenging the APC's rule. The faction sees this move as a testament to their commitment to working towards an all-opposition platform that can take power from the incumbent and rebuild Nigeria for the benefit of all citizens.

The G-100 summit, attended by representatives from six opposition parties, decided to initiate a structured negotiation process on opposition cooperation ahead of the 2027 election. They agreed to establish standing committees and working groups to develop proposals on opposition unity, a national reform program, and a roadmap for selecting a common presidential candidate.

This development comes as opposition parties strive to prevent the repetition of the 2023 presidential election, where votes were dispersed among multiple candidates, leading to a lack of clear victory. Notably, prominent opposition figures Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi did not attend the summit, but the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that Atiku's absence was not significant as the meeting focused on cooperation among political parties rather than presidential candidates.
