Name missing from Maharashtra SIR draft electoral roll? Here’s what you need to do next

The Maharashtra SIR draft electoral roll was released on August 31 and contains 2.07 crore missing electors. Those who find their names absent now have a one-month window to take action. Your name may not automatically be deleted from the roll. To ensure your eligibility, verify your details using the Voter Service Portal, the Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer's website or the District Election Officer's website.

Keep your EPIC/Voter ID handy during this search. If you are still missing, you can file Form 6 for your inclusion within the electoral roll, along with a declaration and required documents. This process runs from August 31 to September 30, 2026. First-time voters who will turn 18 by October 1, 2026, are also eligible to apply during this period.

You can file Form 6 online through ECINET/ECI voter services or submit it offline to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or designated officer for your Assembly constituency. Assistance is available from Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in identifying the concerned ERO/AERO. If your name was marked as Absent/Not Found or Permanently Shifted, it does not guarantee ineligibility to vote.

The CEO has clarified that these categories are provisional and genuine voters might have been overlooked, especially in urban areas where enumeration visits might not have been possible. If you were away due to work, study or other reasons when enumeration was conducted, you should still file a claim if your name is missing. The CEO has emphasized that people temporarily outside Maharashtra or India should not lose their electoral roll status simply because they were away during enumeration.

After filing a claim, it will be examined by Electoral Registration Officers, and verification notices may be issued until October 29. You must respond to any notice and attend the hearing or verification process. The final electoral roll is expected to be published on November 4, 2026.
