Palestinian presidency warns Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa risk igniting ‘religious conflict’

The Palestinian presidency has cautioned that intensifying Israeli assaults on Islamic holy sites could lead to a broader religious conflict across the region. In a statement released by the Wafa news agency, the presidency stated that Israeli forces and settlers have ramped up their attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque and other revered sites.

"Systematic attacks have crossed all red lines and could ignite a wider religious conflict with serious consequences for the region and the world," the statement read. The warning came after an attempt by "Colonists" to burn a mosque in Beita, located northwest of Nablus, and deface it with racist slogans. The incident coincided with Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's incursion into Al-Aqsa Mosque.

"The continuation of the repeated attacks, and the accompanying incitement, is the full responsibility of the occupying government, which is pushing matters toward this dangerous escalation," the presidency added. The presidency called on the international community to take "immediate and serious action to stop these crimes."
