Lagos begins enforcement of 2026 parking permits, warns defaulters

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has begun enforcing new parking permit regulations for the year 2026 across its operational zones in Lagos, warning defaulters of significant fines and immediate suspension of operations. General Manager Adebisi Adelabu announced this in a statement on the state government page, indicating that this enforcement signifies the end of the extended grace period given to customers to formalize their parking arrangements and acquire the necessary 2026 parking permits.

The extension was intended to provide sufficient time for affected customers to comply with the authority’s requirements. Adelabu emphasized that the enforcement aimed to ensure adherence to approved parking rules, promote accountability, and enhance parking management throughout the state. She expressed concern over the number of customers who have yet to obtain their 2026 parking permits despite multiple appeals, communications, and reminders.

Adelabu stated that LASPA had previously provided all registered customers with the 2026 Demand Notices, detailing the applicable fees, requirements, and procedures for obtaining the permits. She urged those who have not yet formalized their operations to take immediate action to avoid sanctions for continued non-compliance. According to Adelabu, the enforcement exercise is not punitive but necessary to restore order, accountability, and efficiency within Lagos’ parking system.

Valid parking permits and accurate customer records are crucial for LASPA to effectively manage and regulate parking infrastructure and services across the state. Defaulting customers on the 2026 Demand Notices would face severe penalties, including substantial fines and immediate suspension of operations, in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.

Adelabu assured customers that LASPA personnel were available to offer assistance and guidance, including support for the authority’s online payment and registration portals. She appealed to the public to cooperate with enforcement officers during the enforcement process and report unauthorized parking activities to the authority.
