Court remands two over alleged possession of narcotics

The Accra Circuit Court Nine remanded two individuals for allegedly possessing 500 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, according to prosecutors. Torsu Assidam and Kofi Kesse, who did not provide pleas, will appear before the court again on October 14, 2026. Their alleged accomplice, identified as Amando, remains at large.

Chief Inspector Clement Sarpong, representing the prosecution, informed the court that on August 23, 2026, the Accra Regional Police Command received information about a group of young men selling suspected Indian hemp at the Arts Centre. A team of police officers from the Accra Regional Stopper '2' was dispatched to the location and arrested the accused individuals.

The suspects were found in possession of the seized 500 wraps of dried leaves, which were handed over for investigation. During questioning, the accused admitted the drugs belonged to them, along with stating that Amando had provided them with the substances to sell. The prosecution stated that the suspects provided this information during their investigation and could not guide the police to Amando's whereabouts.

The exhibits were forwarded to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory for examination, and efforts were ongoing to locate Amando for further assistance in the investigation, stated the prosecution.
