I will decide when the time comes – Kurt Okraku on GFA presidential third-term bid

Kurt Okraku, the current president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has not confirmed whether he will seek a third term in office. The GFA president, who has been in charge since 2019, is eligible to run for re-election following a constitutional amendment approved in 2025, which permits presidents to serve up to three terms. The amendment, which was approved by 114 out of the 124 delegates present, cleared the way for Okraku to run again in the 2027 elections.

When asked by 3Sports if he plans to contest the election, Okraku stated that it was too early to make a commitment. He emphasized that he wants to focus on his current term as president and determine how to reposition Ghanaian football. Okraku also assured that both he and the wider football community would express their views when the time comes. He reiterated that he has no intention of remaining in office indefinitely, adding that he will eventually "fly away" once the time is right.

The 2027 election is anticipated to draw significant attention, with former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew being linked to a potential bid. George Afriyie, a former GFA vice-president, is also widely expected to run for the presidency, having been cleared to contest after his predecessor, George Afriyie, was disqualified from the race.
