Family, friends protest over UNIPORT graduate’s killing

Protests have persisted for three days following the alleged killing of University of Port Harcourt graduate, Anthony Obodo, by a police corporal at the Ada George-Agip Junction in Port Harcourt on Thursday. Initial reports suggested that Anthony was stopped at a checkpoint, but the police chased him, claiming he refused to stop.

One of the officers then allegedly fired three shots, resulting in Anthony's death, which was later confirmed at the hospital. The police spokesperson, Blessing Agabe, identified the shooter as Corporal Alfred Louis, stating that he and other officers involved had been arrested. However, family members and friends of the 22-year-old staged another protest on Tuesday, demanding justice and parading the suspected killer cop to ensure a fair trial.

Protest leader, Charles Chukwu, urged authorities to take action, emphasizing that the police should not be allowed to shield the officer responsible for the murder. The father of the deceased, Mr. Princewill Obodo, also expressed his grief, stating that his son was targeted and killed while on duty. Mr. Obodo's statement highlighted the policemen's departure from their posts to carry out the crime, and he called on Nigerians to ensure his son gets justice.
