The Accra Circuit Court Nine remanded two individuals on Tuesday for allegedly possessing what was suspected to be 500 wraps of Indian hemp, according to prosecutors. Torsu Assidam and Kofi Kesse, who declined to enter pleas, will appear in court again on October 14, 2026. A third individual, only identified as Amando, remains at large.
Chief Inspector Clement Sarpong, the prosecutor, informed the court that on August 23, 2026, the Accra Regional Police Command received intelligence about a group of young men in possession of a quantity of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp and selling it to residents at the Arts Centre. In response, a team of police officers from the Accra Regional Stopper '2' was deployed to the location, where the accused individuals were apprehended and handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The accused were found in possession of the suspected substance, which was subsequently seized. During on-the-spot questioning, the accused confessed that the exhibits belonged to them. The prosecution stated that the accused also told the police that Amando had provided them with the substance to sell. However, the prosecution added that they were unable to provide the police with Amando's whereabouts.
Chief Inspector Sarpong stated that the accused admitted to the offense during the investigations and were subsequently brought before the court. The seized exhibits have been forwarded to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory for further examination, and a report is being prepared. Efforts are also underway to locate and apprehend Amando to aid the ongoing investigation, as per the prosecution.
