Barcelona complete signing of Arsenal striker Jesus

Barcelona have officially completed the signing of Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus, as of Monday following a £8.6m (10m euros) deal. This comes after BBC Sport reported that a move to the Spanish champions was imminent. Jesus' move to Barcelona is a result of him falling down the pecking order at Arsenal due to injury issues, as well as competing with Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres for central striker positions.

Initially, Napoli showed interest in the Brazilian, but he has now joined Barcelona, the Spanish league champions from last season. Jesus transferred to Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022, contributing with 32 goals and 22 assists in 123 appearances for the Gunners. In an interview following Arsenal's win over Aston Villa, manager Mikel Arteta confirmed Jesus was not training with the squad, suggesting the forward was leaving the club.

Barcelona's third signing this summer will join Anthony Gordon from Newcastle and Rodri from Manchester City. Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez remains a target for Barcelona, but negotiations remain ongoing as the La Liga club has made it clear they are not in favor of a transfer. Arsenal are also pursuing a deal for Atletico striker Julian Alvarez, while they have sold Fabio Vieira to Hamburg and Ethan Nwaneri is close to a loan move to Borussia Dortmund.
