Barcelona complete signing of Arsenal striker Jesus

Barcelona have successfully signed Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus on a permanent deal, as confirmed by BBC Sport. The Brazilian forward will join the Spanish giants for a fee of £8.6 million (10 million euros). Jesus' move comes after he fell down Arsenal's pecking order due to injury concerns and competition from players like Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres. Napoli had previously shown interest in the player, but Barcelona has now secured his signature after he completed his medical on Monday.

Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022, netting 32 goals and providing 22 assists in 123 appearances for the Gunners. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed Jesus' departure during a press conference, stating, "Personal situations, whatever they are, I think it's clear." This marks Barcelona's third signing from a Premier League club this summer, following the acquisitions of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle and Rodri from Manchester City.

Alongside Jesus, Barcelona has also pursued a deal for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, but Atletico has expressed no intention to negotiate with their La Liga rivals. Arsenal has also shown interest in Alvarez but is unlikely to reach an agreement at this stage. Additionally, the Gunners have sold Fabio Vieira to Hamburger SV, and Ethan Nwaneri is expected to complete a loan move to Borussia Dortmund.
