US-Iran strikes revive confrontation across Hormuz and Jordan

Earlier on August 26, Axios cited informed sources who revealed that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had informed foreign counterparts that Washington was unlikely to launch additional strikes against Iran in the near future. The administration's strategy focused on maritime containment and sanctions enforcement, while prioritizing the unobstructed flow of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz.

One U.S. official told Axios that the current restrained approach was anticipated to persist through the midterm elections, after which there might be a resurgence of military action.

Rubio's warning to allied foreign ministers occurred as international naval forces had largely cleared the Strait of Hormuz of mines, paving the way for a gradual restart of tanker traffic and significantly reducing Iran's influence over global energy markets, as reported by Axios. On August 25, Donald Trump announced that the U.S. Navy had neutralized or recovered all mines from the critical shipping corridor.

Tehran was given a stern warning that any vessels attempting to place additional mines would be met with immediate destruction. With the route cleared, commercial oil tankers could now travel in both directions through the Strait of Hormuz, escorted by the U.S. Air Force, thereby increasing export volumes.
