이진숙, 5·18 유공자 ‘명단 공개’ 추진…“여자 전두환” 발언도 법적 조처한다

National Assembly member 이진숙 has announced his intention to take further legal action against 민주당 대표 김민석, who referred to him as '여자 전두환'. 이진숙 revealed his plans during a press conference held at the National Assembly on May 31st. He stated that the term '여자 전두환' was intended to disparage and insult him, and that such an effort is historically necessary to rectify. 이진숙 emphasized that the term is an egregious act of historical revision and an attempt to belittle him.

In a previous incident, 민주당 대표 김민석 had warned in a meeting on May 15th at the Democratic Party's Joint Assembly in Gwangju that he would stop using such terms like '여자 전두환' and '여자 히틀러' in South Korea. 이진숙 later filed a defamation complaint against 김민석 regarding the '여자 히틀러' remark, stating that he has never used such language. He reiterated his stance that he has never made any derogatory remarks about 5·18, and that his objective is to prevent the dishonor of 5·18 as a sacred occasion and the public disclosure of the list of 유공자 (luminaries of the democratization movement).

This individual has pledged to make the 5·18 유공자 review more rigorous, placing it under the purview of the Governor of Gwangju Metropolitan City and aligning it with the Ministry of Unification. Additionally, he intends to strengthen the review authority of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism by obligating the review committee to make decisions and by amending relevant laws such as the 5·18 Democratic Uprising Law to mandate the public disclosure of 유공자 names and public information.
