Trump calls for ‘punishment’ of NBC reporter

Welker, an award-winning journalist known for moderating a 2020 presidential debate, defended herself, stating that Trump had achieved success in most recent endorsements, including Senator Darline Graham's primary victory. Trump accused the "Radical Left News" of harassing, demeaning, and libeling his administration. The Federal Communications Commission, under a close Trump associate, has been pressuring broadcasters to align with the administration's views, facing resistance from news organizations and major broadcast networks.

Experts argue that the FCC lacks the legal authority to punish broadcasters or reporters for their viewpoints, as confirmed by the US Supreme Court's rulings on the First Amendment. Despite Trump's endorsement efforts helping Republican candidates, at least 10 of his picks have been defeated this cycle, including four US House hopefuls and six gubernatorial candidates.
