Nepal floods: Family of missing Himachal engineer urges Centre to intervene in rescue work

George Town, Aug 31 — The family of Muhammad Muhaimin Azhad Noor Hadi, a hiker missing since flash floods and landslides in Nepal border area last Wednesday, remains hopeful for his well-being. His father, known as Noor Hadi, expressed his family's current anticipation for updates from authorities after receiving information on the situation in Nepal.

The family, residing in Taman Tun Sardon, Gelugor, have traveled to Kuala Lumpur to stay updated on their son's situation, as he is employed by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM) in Penang, located at Wisma Putra. Noor Hadi recounted attending a meeting with Wisma Putra to gather information about their son but has yet to receive any contact from him since his absence.

The family continues to pray for Muhammad Muhaimin Azhad's safety, joining the mosque in a special prayer and recitation of Surah Yasin. Abdul Hadi shared that his son embarked on a hiking expedition to Langtang Valley, Nepal, last week and was expected to return to Malaysia today. Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow revealed that the Penang government is prepared to explore potential assistance for families of two missing hikers from the state who ventured into the Nepal-Tibet border region last Wednesday.

The state government will also gather relevant details, including reaching out to the Penang Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM), where the hikers work as engineers, to determine how they can provide aid. Chow conveyed this information following the state-level National Day celebration at Padang Kota Lama in George Town.

The three Malaysian hikers, whose families anxiously await news of their safety, are Muhammad Muhaimin Azhad, 27, from Gelugor, Muhammad Zaki Othman, 29, from Kubang Semang, Bukit Mertajam, and Muhammad Adib Haikal Awang Mansor, 27, from Kulim, Kedah. A friend of the hikers shared their last message received on Aug 26 at 10.42am (Malaysian time) along with their last known location near the Bhote Koshi area.
