Family prays for Gelugor hiker missing in Nepal floods, Penang government ready to assist

George Town, Aug 31 — The family of Muhammad Muhaimin Azhad Noor Hadi, a hiker who has remained missing since flash floods and landslides struck the Nepal-Tibet border area last Wednesday, eagerly awaits news of his whereabouts. His father, often referred to as Noor Hadi, expressed his family's current location in Kuala Lumpur, where they closely follow updates on their son's situation.

They attended a recent meeting with Wisma Putra to seek information, but have received no communication from their son since the disaster. The family prays for his safe return, gathering at a mosque for a special prayer session dedicated to him.

On the same day, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow revealed that his administration stands ready to offer assistance to families of two Malaysian hikers reported missing during the incident. Chow emphasized the government's commitment to obtaining necessary details and reaching out to the Penang ICU JPM, where the hikers are employed as engineers, to explore potential support. This announcement came during Penang's National Day celebration at Padang Kota Lama.

The three Malaysian hikers—Muhammad Muhaimin Azhad, 27, from Gelugor, Muhammad Zaki Othman, 29, from Bukit Mertajam, and Muhammad Adib Haikal Awang Mansor, 27, from Kulim, Kedah—were hiking in the Langtang Valley when the natural disasters struck. Following their last communication on Aug 26, friends of the climbers appealed for public prayers, citing their last known location in the Bhote Koshi area.
