Kyiv under near-constant air raid alerts for 5th day as Russian strikes kill 7, injure 43 across Ukraine

For the fifth consecutive day, Russian forces have been launching constant jet-powered drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, with Kyiv and its surrounding region being the primary targets. Seven individuals were killed and 43 injured across six oblasts over the past day, according to local authorities. Russia has launched a total of 121 long-range attack drones overnight, with Ukrainian air defenses intercepting 96, or approximately 79% of the total.

Moscow has shifted its airstrike tactics, transitioning from massive overnight barrages of ballistic and cruise missiles to separate, near-hourly attacks of jet-powered drones throughout the day, which trigger continuous air raid alerts across Ukrainian cities. The attacks on Kyiv and its surrounding area have resulted in eight air raid alerts by 1:30 p.m. on August 31, with the capital recording 13 alerts on August 28, the highest number since Russia began its full-scale invasion.

The persistent strikes are disrupting businesses, public transportation, and daily life for residents, while also straining Ukraine's air defenses and increasing the civilian casualty toll. At least seven people were killed and another 43 injured across Ukraine on August 31, with the majority of the victims located in Pohreby, a village near Kyiv.
