Google Maps now shows 'Lake America' in US, not 'Lake Ontario'

Google Maps has updated its U.S. version to replace the name Lake Ontario with Lake America in honor of President Donald Trump's executive order changing the lake's name, according to Google. The change comes amid a trade dispute between the U.S. and Canada, with Trump imposing tariffs on billions of dollars worth of goods. The order impacts the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), which determines official U.S. map names, but does not affect Canadian naming or global usage.

Google stated that users in the U.S. will now see Lake America while those in Canada will still see Lake Ontario, and those outside the U.S. and Canada will see both names. The White House, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's office, and Ontario Premier Doug Ford's office were not mentioned in Google's statement.
