Fifteen people missing after Grand Canyon flash flood

Fifteen individuals are unaccounted for after a flash flood at the Grand Canyon, according to the US National Park Service. The incident occurred on Saturday in Bright Angel Canyon and Phantom Ranch area, with heavy rain causing a sudden increase in water flow. Sixty-two people have been evacuated, while others are still being accounted for.

The park remains closed in several areas, and authorities are working with Arizona officials to ensure everyone's safety. The rapid influx of water, estimated to be 1 to 2.5 centimeters in just 30 minutes, led to the destruction of footbridges and significantly altered the landscape. No confirmed deaths or injuries have been reported so far.

The park service is urging anyone with information about hikers or campers in the area to come forward, as they continue their efforts to locate missing individuals. Popular tourist sites such as Bright Angel Campground, Phantom Ranch, and parts of the North Kaibab trail are closed while the park officials assess the damage.
