WATCH | Six-year-old girl rescued after being trapped under rubble in Nepal floods

A six-year-old Nepali girl has been rescued from underneath rubble following devastating floods that hit the country's northern regions, according to a video circulating on social media. The catastrophic flooding, triggered by an ice-and-rock mass entering the upper Bhote Koshi River, has claimed 734 lives so far, leaving around 2,500 people still missing.

The hardest-hit areas include Chitwan district, where 259 individuals perished, followed by Nawalparasi East with 184 deaths and Nawalparasi West with 82 fatalities. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority is still working on identifying bodies at 21 hospitals across the nation.

Authorities have deployed nearly 20,000 security personnel to aid in search-and-rescue efforts using helicopters and ground teams. So far, they have successfully saved 8,186 people, including 279 who were trapped inside a hydropower tunnel and 227 foreign nationals. The government has allocated over $6.5 million in aid for the affected regions and has delivered relief supplies via trucks as well as arranged air deliveries of food to communities cut off by the disaster.

The Russian Embassy in China reported that eight Russians were missing in the Nepal-China border area, with nine listed missing by the Nepal Tourism Board, two of whom have been rescued so far, and seven still unaccounted for. On the Chinese side of the border, 16 people have died and 546 remain missing in Tibet's Gyirong County, including 261 foreign nationals from 23 countries. Rescue personnel in the region have been warned of further risks due to unstable terrain and a newly formed barrier lake.
