The missing in Nepal-Tibet flash floods

In the aftermath of the Nepal-Tibet flash floods, the latest figures reveal that 2,980 individuals are missing, with numbers expected to fluctuate due to the chaotic conditions following the disaster. Nepal's disaster agency increased the missing count on its side of the border to 2,426, while China's Xinhua news agency reported 554 missing, including seven confirmed fatalities.

Together, at least 2,980 individuals are missing. Nepal's disaster agency reported on Friday that 517 foreigners, comprising tourists and foreign workers, remain missing, though Chinese officials stated only 260 foreigners were missing. Nepal's figures for killed citizens stand at a minimum of 682, with the Nepal Tourism Board estimating 127 Nepali tourists absent, while the disaster agency believed hundreds of Nepali residents could be unaccounted for.

China's foreign ministry reported nearly 100 Chinese nationals missing, while Nepal's Tourism Board noted 554 still missing on the Chinese side. India reported 98 missing citizens, with 85 rescued, and the United States listed 90 missing Americans, three of whom were rescued. The Nepal Tourism Board reported 65 American citizens missing and two rescued.

Ukraine's embassy acknowledged 62 missing Ukrainian citizens, revising their earlier count upwards by six. Malaysia reported 51 missing Malaysians, Australia reported 42, the United Kingdom 33, Latvia 29, Canada 25, South Korea 9, Singapore 9, Germany 8, Russia 9, South Africa, Japan, New Zealand, France, Spain, Belgium, Hungary, Portugal, the Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Finland, Israel, Lithuania, the Philippines, Serbia, Switzerland, Sweden, Vietnam, and unconfirmed nationalities, all contributing to the overall tally of missing individuals.
