'Smooth' Marc Marquez wins Aragon MotoGP sprint, Bezzecchi on pole

At MotorLand in Alcañiz, Spain, reigning world champion Marc Marquez secured a dominant sprint victory on Saturday. Italian Marco Bezzecchi secured a surprising pole position for the upcoming Aragon MotoGP, setting a new circuit lap record. Seven-time MotoGP champion Marquez will start the Grand Prix from second place, aiming to continue his strong start to the sprint, which saw him beat Bezzecchi by 1.140 seconds. Bezzecchi rounded out the podium, marking his third sprint win at the circuit in northeast Spain.

In post-race interviews, Marquez praised his smooth riding, stating, "Today, I was riding smooth. It's something that normally happens in a circuit where you feel well, you are faster with less stress." He added, "Now the real job starts" as he looks to close the gap on championship leader Jorge Martin. Bezzecchi and the elder Marquez are both targeting a tighter race for the upcoming Grand Prix.

Earlier Saturday, Bezzecchi demonstrated his speed in both qualifying and the sprint race, finishing fifth and third, respectively. The 12th pole of his MotoGP career came at a circuit that has frequently favored Marquez, who has won seven of the 11 premier-class races held at Aragon. Bezzecchi acknowledged the challenge ahead, stating, "We start in a good place, but Marc and Alex are both super fast in terms of pace. It's going to be a tough fight."
