Registration problems cost Inter Lagos 3SC match – Coach

Inter Lagos coach Shakiru Giwa has blamed registration issues for his team’s 2-1 loss to Shooting Stars in their inaugural Nigeria Premier Football League match, while expressing optimism for future performances, according to PUNCH Sports Extra. Giwa, who joined Inter Lagos last year and led the team from the lower tier to the top division, acknowledged the challenges his players faced in adapting to the higher level of competition.

Despite showing glimpses of quality in their debut at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Inter Lagos fell short against the newly promoted Shooting Stars, who secured a 2-1 victory. Lucky Emmanuel opened the scoring for Inter Lagos in the 11th minute, while captain Uchenna Njoku equalized for the home side midway through the first half.

However, Shooting Stars took the lead in the closing minutes of the first half via a penalty by Sodiq Ibrahim, doubling their lead. Giwa acknowledged that the registration problems forced him to make last-minute changes to his squad, suggesting that the team's performance was not a reflection of their abilities. He promised to work on their shortcomings in upcoming matches, emphasizing their potential for improvement.

Inter Lagos CEO Lanre Vigo praised the players' efforts, highlighting their first-half performance and the team's potential to attract new fans. The club now prepares for their first home fixture against Doma United in the upcoming weekend.
