Scott turns back clock in Tour Championship title tilt

Australian golfer Adam Scott finds himself tied for third in the PGA Tour Championship, trailing leader Viktor Hovland by three shots. The final round of the Tour Championship is scheduled for Sunday. Despite being three major titles away from his career goals, Scott may have a chance to cap his illustrious career with a second Tour Championship win.

As golf's top players vie for a $US10 million prize in Atlanta, Scott quietly climbed into a tie for third entering the final round. On Saturday at East Lake Golf Club, Scott shot a 65, putting him three shots behind Hovland and two shots behind Ryan Gerard. The 46-year-old Scott praised his putting performance, which included several crucial birdies.

Scott stated that he is within striking distance but needs a "really great round" to ultimately win the Tour Championship. Min Woo Lee, a fellow Australian and the only other player in the elite field, remains an outside hope for the first Tour Championship debutant win since 2017. Other notable performances include Scottie Scheffler and Chris Gotterup sharing third place, Rory McIlroy vaulting to joint seventh, and a group of American golfers all at nine under.
