Emotional Federer inducted into tennis Hall of Fame

Roger Federer, the 20-time Grand Slam singles champion and eight-time Wimbledon winner, was honored with his induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Saturday. The 45-year-old Swiss legend, who retired from professional tennis in 2022, expressed his gratitude during the ceremony in Newport, Rhode Island, calling it "one of the greatest honors of my life."

Federer, overcome with emotion, acknowledged the contributions of his family, friends, opponents, officials, and fans who had supported him throughout his illustrious career. He described his induction as a testament to his lifelong dedication to tennis, stating, "It's hard to put it into words."

The former ATP tour star humorously recounted his extensive wardrobe of headbands and socks, which numbered over 5,000 and 7,000 respectively, emphasizing his commitment to the sport. He also paid tribute to his idols Stefan Edberg and other tennis legends, acknowledging their influence on his journey.

Reflecting on his experiences, Federer expressed his desire to continue writing his love letter to tennis, despite retiring from professional play. He emphasized that tennis has played a significant role in shaping his life, encompassing his family, friendships, past achievements, and future aspirations.
