Hovland leads Tour Championship as Scheffler and McIlroy impress

Viktor Hovland leads the PGA Tour's $40m Tour Championship at the final round in Atlanta, holding a one-stroke advantage over Ryan Gerard after a five-under-par 65 in the third round. Hovland, who clinched victory in the FedEx Cup last year, began the day tied for the lead with Gerard. The Norwegian improved his standing with birdies on the 17th and 18th holes.

Gerard mirrored Hovland's effort with a final round 66, finishing one stroke back at 14 under. Top two-ranked players Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are trailing in the race for the season-ending event and the FedEx Cup title. Scheffler, the 2024 champion, shot a flawless 66 and trails three strokes behind Hovland. McIlroy, back-to-back Masters winner and record three-time FedEx Cup victor, posted an impressive 63, sitting five shots off Hovland's lead.

Adam Scott and Ludvig Aberg are also tied with the leaders at 12 under par. Lurking further behind are Players Championship winner Cameron Young, Justin Rose, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Alex Fitzpatrick, and Robert MacIntyre, all playing on a reduced 29-man field after J.J. Spaun withdrew due to injury.
