Norris secures McLaren contract through 2030

Formula One champion Lando Norris has signed a new long-term contract with McLaren that will keep him with the team until at least 2030, with the option to extend further. The 26-year-old revealed his decision at McLaren's Technology Centre in Woking, expressing his desire to continue his partnership with the team since joining their junior programme in 2017.

This extension replaces a contract previously expected to run until 2027, giving Norris four additional full seasons with McLaren beyond 2026. The deal follows a strong 2025 season where Norris secured his maiden world championship title, marking McLaren's first drivers' champion since Lewis Hamilton in 2008. He also helped McLaren achieve consecutive constructors' championships in 2024 and 2025.

McLaren principal Andrea Stella highlighted the extension as a reflection of the team's confidence in Norris, who has demonstrated speed, maturity, and consistency throughout his time with the team. Team CEO Zak Brown emphasized the importance of retaining Norris alongside his team-mate Oscar Piastri, stating that it would allow McLaren to remain a competitive force for race wins and championships amidst the evolving technical landscape of Formula One.

Despite interest from other teams, Norris chose to remain with McLaren, finding it the most straightforward option. He indicated satisfaction with his future at the team, noting that he would be comfortable dedicating the remainder of his Formula One career to McLaren, which would span 12 racing seasons by the end of 2030 if the contract is fulfilled as planned.

The new agreement comes as Norris aims to defend his world title during a season where McLaren has significantly improved following a major upgrade implemented around the Hungarian Grand Prix. Despite the performance boost, Mercedes maintains a substantial lead in the championship standings, with Norris currently fourth with 159 points compared to Kimi Antonelli's 242 points.
