Lando Norris locks in his long-term F1 future at McLaren with contract extension to at least 2030

Defending Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris has inked a long-term contract extension with McLaren until the end of 2030, the team announced on Saturday. The British driver secured McLaren's first drivers' title last year, marking the first championship win for the team since Lewis Hamilton claimed the title in 2008. McLaren stated that the new deal includes a multi-year option to extend the commitment beyond the initial period, though financial details were not disclosed.

The 26-year-old Norris has raced 163 Grands Prix for McLaren, setting records with 18 pole positions, 48 podium finishes, and 13 victories. "McLaren is my home," Norris said, adding that the team's goals of regaining the top spot and winning championships have been met. However, Norris remains fourth in the standings, trailing Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli by 83 points.

He recently secured consecutive wins at the Dutch Grand Prix and Hungary, reigniting hopes for a championship defense, though he admitted he currently lacks a car capable of competing for the title. Norris emphasized that McLaren's focus on improving slow-speed cornering could help him chase after Antonelli. Team principal Andrea Stella commended Norris, praising his exceptional natural speed, maturity, consistency, and strong commitment to the team.
