Lagos, Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA move to tackle illegal space encroachment

The Lagos State Government, in partnership with the Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA), is taking action against illegal encroachment of open spaces within the council area. This move comes after a meeting between the Lagos State Informal Space Management Authority (LASISMA) and the LCDA, aimed at improving collaboration on managing informal urban spaces (IUS) and incidental open spaces (IOS).

The authority's General Manager, Daisi Oso, presented the authority's mandate and responsibilities, stressing the importance of collaboration between relevant government institutions and local communities for effective management. Both parties agreed to work together on stakeholder sensitisation, data gathering, enforcement, and ensuring compliance with physical planning regulations.

The state government has also issued a seven-day ultimatum to those occupying areas around public institutions, such as hospitals and schools, to vacate within the given timeframe. This initiative aims to prevent traffic congestion, ensure unhindered access for essential services, and promote sustainable physical development in the Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA.
