Nepal flood death toll rises to 781, with 2,502 missing: disaster authority

Devastating floods near Nepal's border with China have resulted in at least 781 deaths, with 2,502 people still missing, the disaster authority announced on Sunday. Rescue operations are ongoing in their fifth day. Chinese state media reported 16 fatalities in Tibet and 546 missing individuals following the disaster on Wednesday, bringing the total to 797 deaths and 3,048 people unaccounted for.

Among the missing are 592 foreigners, as well as 933 workers on hydropower projects along the river affected by the torrential flow, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. The disaster agency recorded 1,910 missing citizens, including 562 unaccounted for in the most severely impacted Rasuwa district.

Indian authorities recovered seven bodies from Nepal's rivers, believed to be flood victims, although these figures are not included in the official toll.
