Eye donation awareness rally held in Vizag

An awareness rally for eye donation took place in Visakhapatnam as part of the 41st National Eye Donation fortnight. The event aimed to educate the public about the importance of eye donation and its life-saving potential. Dr. V. Meenakshi, Superintendent of Government Regional Eye Hospital and District Blindness Control Society Programme Manager, explained that a single donated eye could restore sight in up to four people using advanced medical techniques.

The rally, organized jointly by the District Blindness Control Society and Mohsin Eye Bank, began at Kali Mata Temple near RK Beach and concluded at the YMCA. District Medical and Health Officer Dr. P. Jagadeeswara Rao, along with Dr. Meenakshi, led the procession.

The rally saw active participation from around 700 doctors, medical and nursing students, healthcare staff, and representatives from hospitals and Mohsin Eye Bank. They displayed placards and raised slogans to emphasize the significance of eye donation. Dr. Meenakshi stressed the need for greater public awareness regarding eye donation, pointing out that eyes could be donated within six hours of a person's death. Various awareness programs were scheduled during the 15-day campaign to spread the message further.
