Bersatu still legally in PN, says Takiyuddin

PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan has confirmed that Bersatu remains a component party of Perikatan Nasional (PN) legally, despite PAS suspending political ties with the party. Takiyuddin, who is also PAS secretary-general, clarified that Bersatu's status within PN cannot be denied legally, but the relationship between Bersatu and PAS should be seen differently.

He noted that Bersatu's recent decision to use its own logo and field candidates under its own symbol in the Negeri Sembilan state election demonstrated that the two parties had distanced themselves politically. Takiyuddin emphasized that Bersatu contested the election under its own logo, not PN's, and stated that there is no longer any political understanding between PAS and Bersatu.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had previously stated that the party had ruled out the possibility of mending ties with Bersatu, citing the party's decision to go solo in the Negeri Sembilan polls and its intention to cooperate with Pakatan Harapan in the upcoming Melaka state election. Hadi had previously claimed that Bersatu had automatically ceased to be part of PN after announcing its plans to form a new political coalition.

Tensions between PAS and Bersatu had been rising in recent months, with PAS ending their political cooperation with Bersatu in June. Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin had accused PAS, which now leads PN, of steering the opposition coalition in the wrong direction and making it "toxic."
