Bersatu still legally in PN despite PAS split, says Takiyuddin

Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan stated that Bersatu remains a legally recognised component of PN, even though PAS has ended its political ties with the party. According to Takiyuddin, Bersatu's status as a component party cannot be denied under the coalition's legal and constitutional framework, despite the party's political distance from PN.

As the PN secretary-general, he confirms this legally and constitutionally. However, he clarifies that morally and politically, Bersatu has severed its ties with PN as it has distanced itself from the coalition. Takiyuddin points out that PAS and Bersatu have two different relationships - PAS and Bersatu's political relationship and Bersatu's relationship within PN.

He notes that Bersatu's use of its own logo and candidates in recent elections demonstrates its political separation from PN. While PAS has formally stated the end of its political relationship with Bersatu, Takiyuddin emphasizes that the rift was not formally terminated. PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang previously said the rift widened after Bersatu's decision to contest against PN in the Negeri Sembilan state election.

Hadi also mentioned the complexity arising from Bersatu leaders discussing potential collaboration with Pakatan Harapan before the Melaka state election.
