Takiyuddin: Bersatu remains PN component party despite Pas rift

KOTA BARU: Bersatu continues to be a legal component party of PN, despite Pas ending its political association with the party, according to PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan. He confirmed that legally, Bersatu remains a component party of PN, though their relationship has become disconnected from a moral and political standpoint.

Takiyuddin, who is also Pas secretary-general, emphasized that there are two distinct contexts to consider: the Bersatu-Pas relationship and Bersatu's relationship with PN. He stated that Bersatu's use of its own logo during the recent Negri Sembilan election and fielding candidates under the Bersatu banner indicated a deliberate distancing from PN. This decision effectively severed any political understanding between Bersatu and Pas.

However, Takiyuddin noted that Pas had chosen to describe the termination of their political relationship as "halting" rather than "severing." He explained that while the relationship was halted, it had not been completely severed. Additionally, Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang stated that the rift between the two parties had widened following Bersatu's decision to contest against PN in the Negri Sembilan election and potential collaboration with PH ahead of the Melaka election.
