Apple apparently tested a stylus for the foldable iPhone, then nixed the idea

Apple reportedly experimented with a stylus for their foldable iPhone but ultimately abandoned the concept. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman explains that the company considered the idea, as the larger screen would benefit from such input. The prototype was shorter than the iPad versions due to the significant height difference between the devices.

Apple also contemplated attaching the pencil to the side of the foldable iPhone for storage and charging purposes. However, the plan was discontinued due to several practical limitations. The magnetic attachment could hinder folding and unfolding, and more critically, the stylus's pointed tip might damage the delicate upper layer of foldable displays or leave marks, compromising the premium experience Apple strives for.

While the possibility of an Apple Pencil for the foldable iPhone currently appears unlikely, Gurman's report suggests that future iterations of the device, once foldable display technology improves or Apple devises a gentler stylus design, could potentially feature the accessory.
