Apple reportedly considered launching a new Apple Pencil for iPhone Ultra

Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone, set to launch soon, reportedly sparked discussions about a potential new Apple Pencil companion. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the pencil would have been designed to complement the iPhone Ultra's shorter height, featuring a "stubbier" design. Like its iPad counterpart, the hypothetical Apple Pencil would magnetically attach to the side of the iPhone for storage and charging convenience.

However, its placement on the side could have made it awkward to hold while using the device, unlike the iPad where it sticks at the top in landscape mode. The pencil may have also left unsightly marks on the iPhone Ultra's delicate screen, posing another challenge. According to Gurman, Apple likely decided against releasing the Pencil to avoid conflicting with Steve Jobs' stance during the original iPhone launch: "Who wants a stylus?"

Despite this, an Apple Pencil for the iPhone Ultra may have been useful. For now, it seems the device won't see this accessory in its debut.
