A redesigned Apple Watch now seems further in the future

Apple is reportedly working on a major redesign of the Apple Watch, potentially arriving as early as next year, though it could be delayed to 2028. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman notes that while smaller updates like the Series 12 and Ultra 4 are on the way this fall, the next generation may bring more significant changes. The newer watch could return to ceramic cases, known internally as "iceman," available in white, dark gray, and various band colors.

A noteworthy development may be a continuous heart-rate sensor, which would keep monitoring throughout the day instead of activating only during workouts or intense activity. Additionally, Apple is reworking its fitness and health software to provide more wellness-related metrics, similar to services from Whoop and Oura, which focus on turning health data into easily understandable daily insights.

While the Series 12 and Ultra 4 will likely be minor upgrades, the major redesign remains Apple's priority, potentially offering a more comprehensive understanding of users' health and wellness.
