Russian ballistic strike cuts power to over 300,000 families in Mykolaiv Oblast

Russian forces launched a ballistic missile strike on energy facilities in Mykolaiv Oblast early on August 29, plunging over 300,000 families into darkness, according to the Mykolaiv Oblast Military Administration. The outages impacted residents in Mykolaiv and the Mykolaiv and Bashtanka districts. Utility crews were dispatched to the affected locations to restore power.

Authorities confirmed that the missile strike targeted an energy facility using an Iskander-M ballistic missile. The State Emergency Service reported that Russian attacks on August 28 evening and August 29 morning had also damaged a home improvement store and a warehouse in Mykolaiv Oblast, causing a fire. The blast resulted in damaged windows in apartment buildings, an administrative building, three garages, and a vehicle.

However, no injuries were reported. Reports indicated explosions were heard in Mykolaiv overnight, with allegations of jet-powered drones heading towards the city. The Ukrainian Air Force issued warnings in the early hours of August 29, cautioning of high-speed targets approaching Mykolaiv Oblast. The Air Force reported that Russia had launched an Oniks anti-ship missile, an Iskander-M ballistic missile, and 267 attack drones against Ukraine overnight.
