Hundreds evacuated after Russian strike sparks major fire and explosions at a warehouse in Bucha

At least 27 individuals lost their lives following a Russian drone attack on a warehouse near Kyiv's western outskirts on Saturday night. The explosion and subsequent fire resulted in significant destruction, according to Ukrainian authorities. Initial reports indicate that the warehouse may have been storing explosive materials, prompting Ukrainian prosecutors to initiate an investigation into potential criminal negligence.

The exact nature of the facility remains unspecified. Ukrainian officials reported a large column of black smoke emanating from the area as the warehouse continued to burn. Taras Didych, the mayor of the village of Dmytrivska, among the deceased, was identified. The incident occurred around 8:10 PM on August 28, when a drone allegedly struck the site in the town of Myla, located just outside of Kyiv.

A massive fire ensued, accompanied by detonations. The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office stated that the investigation would examine the legality of the explosive storage and whether the facility possessed the required permits. Prime Minister Sergiy Koretsky expressed regret over the repeated mistakes, comparing the current situation to a deadly munitions depot attack in Vyshneve in July, which revealed serious state oversight failures. He emphasized the need for severe consequences for all involved to prevent future occurrences.
