At least 27 killed after Russian drone strike triggers deadly explosion near Kyiv

On August 28, a Russian drone strike near Kyiv killed at least 27 people and injured 42, including four children. The attack hit a facility in the village of Myla, 5 kilometers west of Kyiv. The explosion caused a large fire and led to ammunition detonations. Taras Didych, head of the Dmytrivka community, was among the first responders to the scene and was killed in the attack.

As of August 29, more than 300 Ukrainian emergency service workers were involved in extinguishing fires, clearing debris and conducting search-and-rescue operations. At least 50 residential buildings were damaged, along with a care facility for elderly people and people with disabilities. Three hundred and eighty-one people, including 59 children, were evacuated from the site.

President Volodymyr Zelensky called for those responsible to be held accountable, emphasizing that regulations prohibit ammunition storage facilities from being located near civilian residential areas.
