MP demands IGP explain ‘double standards’ in Jalur Gemilang cases

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has urged the Inspector-General of Police to clarify apparent double standards in police investigations concerning errors in the display of the Jalur Gemilang flag. Lim argued that the police's response varied significantly depending on whether the individuals involved were members of the public, a political party, or a government agency. He questioned whether police actions were influenced by the status of those involved.

Lim pointed to a case in Kulai, where two members of the public faced four days of detention, remand, and urine tests following an unintentional error in Jalur Gemilang display. In contrast, in the Perak MCA case, those involved only had their statements recorded. He also mentioned a case involving Kuala Terengganu City Council, where a flag with an inaccurate crescent and star was displayed, and no arrests were made because it was attributed to a technical error.

Lim demanded that the Inspector-General provide a clear explanation for the double standards, warning that failure to do so would result in the inspector-general's resignation or dismissal. He accused the police of harshly punishing ordinary citizens while being lenient toward government officials and political figures, alleging this approach as unjust and favoritism. His comments followed Perak MCA's full acknowledgment of the mistake and apology for the incorrect display of the Jalur Gemilang at its headquarters.
