Kepong MP wants IGP to explain double standards over Jalur Gemilang display errors

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has called on Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail to explain what he perceives as double standards in the handling of cases involving the incorrect display of the national flag, Jalur Gemilang. Lim argues that if the mistake was unintentional, promptly corrected, and followed by an apology, no arrests should have been made.

In Lim's view, the police treated the Kulai and Perak MCA cases differently. In Kulai, two individuals were detained and remanded for four days, subject to urine tests. However, in the Perak MCA case, the responsible individual resigned after taking full responsibility for the error of displaying the Jalur Gemilang and the Perak state flag upside down, which went viral. Lim claims that similar mistakes warranted vastly different police responses.

Lim suggests that the difference in treatment indicates that police action may depend on the involvement of VIPs or government agencies. He demands that Ismail provide a reasonable explanation for the double standard or resign if he refuses to do so. Lim asserts that harsh treatment of ordinary citizens, coupled with leniency towards those in positions of power, is neither just nor fair.
